Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Opaline glass is a decorative, semi-opaque or translucent glass manufactured predominantly in France during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Originally created to mimic porcelain, it gained wide popularity in domestic lighting for its soft light diffusion.

These shades were traditionally hand-blown, with the ruffled or pie-crust rim created by manual tooling while the glass was molten. Clear or contrasting glass was often applied around the edge prior to shaping to form a decorative rim.

Authentic opaline glass exhibits a dense, milky opacity with slight translucency when held to direct light, often showing subtle fiery undertones along the edges. Hand-finished features such as pontil marks, minor hand-blown variations, and age-appropriate patina on metal mountings also indicate age.

Opaline pendant lights suit modern country kitchens, hallways, and dining spaces when hung individually or in a row above a kitchen island. Pairing white glass with warm brass fittings creates balance alongside muted paint schemes and natural timber.

Dust the shade regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth after ensuring the power supply is switched off. For deeper cleaning, unmount the glass shade and wash gently in warm water with mild soap, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
