Boxed Victorian Amethyst Demi Parure Earrings And Brooch
£645 $867 €756
A sumptuous demi-parure of earrings and brooch/pendant in High Victorian Etruscan Revival style and set with gleaming foiled amethysts. Supplied in their beautiful original silk and velvet-lined case as pictured. The locket-back brooch currently contains a photo of a Victorian gentleman but this could easily be replaced with a picture of your choosing. The pieces are gilt metal, with (later) solid nine-carat gold wires on the earrings. Please see below for condition.
Around 1880 many gold treasures dating back to the ancient Etruscan era (700-300 BC) were being discovered in Italian tombs, leading to the emergence of the Etruscan Revival as Victorian jewellers sought to recreate the style. Craftsmen employed considerable skill to make finely detailed pieces using multiple gold working techniques such as granulation, cannetille and filigree and typically employing high-carat gold and semi-precious stones.
• Condition: One earring is a little squashed and a couple of tiny golden el...ements are missing but otherwise the pieces are in good solid antique condition, please look carefully at the photos and do ask if there''s anything you''d like to know. The set looks incredible when worn!
• Fixing: The brooch fastens with a typical 19th century C clasp and could easily be worn as a pendant by threading a chain under the loop back top. The ear wires are supplied with tiny silicone ''keepers'' to pop on the end for security.
• Era: Victorian (c.1837-1901).
• Size: The earrings measure approximately 4.1cm drop from the top of the ear wire and the pendant sections are 3 x 1.5cm. The brooch is 4.3 x 3.5cm.
• Weight: The earrings weigh 4.2g combined, the brooch 11.0g.
