Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A slop bowl, also known as a waste bowl, was an integral component of Georgian tea services. It was used at the tea table to hold dregs, cold tea, and rinsed tea leaves before fresh tea was poured into cups.

First Period Worcester porcelain was produced using a soft-paste body containing soapstone (steatite) from Cornwall. This unique formulation allowed the pottery to withstand boiling water without cracking and gave the underglaze cobalt blue decoration a distinct appearance under a clear lead glaze.

Authentic pieces from this era typically feature a greenish or yellowish tint when held to a strong light, caused by the soapstone content. Markings on the base may include a crescent mark, workmans marks, or fretted square marks in underglaze blue, alongside characteristic shrinkage tears along the foot rim.

A Georgian slop bowl can be displayed on a sideboard, placed within a curio cabinet, or used as a table centerpiece to add historical depth. It can also function decoratively on a entry console or stacked alongside complementary blue and white ceramics.

Hand wash soft-paste porcelain gently in lukewarm water using a mild, non-abrasive detergent. Avoid sudden temperature changes, abrasive sponges, and dishwashers, as these can cause thermal shock or micro-scratches to the glaze.
