Rare Antique English Burr Ash Tunbridge Ware Box - Eridge Castle

Description

Fabulous to see a Victorian Tunbridge Ware box is such an exotic timber, this one from beautiful and highly decorative Burr Ash with a plethora of Tunbridgeware panels, stunning micro-mosaic work in a variety of floral and foliate designs.

The skillfully worked central panel is of Eridge Castle, in Sussex, the original label remains on the interior of the box, a little worn but made clear to me with the aid of a magnifying glass. The label reads " Eridge Castle, Near Tunbridge Wells, The Seat Of The Earl of Abergavenny".

The box retains it's original Fuchsia silk interior, a former owner had written their name in pencil on the fabric in the lid "R. Streeter".

Complete with working key, a fabulous heirloom condition box. 9 1/4" x 7 1/4" x 3".
