Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Draughts sets produced during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras commonly utilised boxwood and ebony or dark-stained hardwoods due to their dense grain and durability under frequent handling. Manufacturing centres in Britain mass-produced these sets for home entertainment, packaging them in simple slide-lid timber boxes.

Game counters from the early twentieth century were typically lathe-turned from fine-grained dense timbers such as boxwood for the light pieces, and ebony, rosewood, or stained fruitwoods for the dark pieces. Storing boxes were constructed from pine or cedar with printed paper labels applied to the sliding lid.

Authentic period sets exhibit subtle variations in size and weight from hand-lathe turning, accompanied by concentric lathe tooling marks on the faces. Original packaging usually features printed paper labels with period typography and trade markings such as English Manufacture.

A boxed draughts set can be integrated into a living space as a decorative accent on a coffee table, a stack of books, or a bookshelf. Displaying the pieces set out on a gaming table or arranged near the box adds texture and historical interest to a contemporary room scheme.

Keep wooden game pieces in a temperature-controlled environment away from direct sunlight and moisture to prevent cracking or warping. Dust gently with a soft dry cloth and apply a light coat of natural microcrystalline or beeswax polish occasionally to nourish the timber.
