Phil Bell Antique Rugs has dated this Tekke Turkmen Engsi Rug to the 1900s.
The standard palette of the Turkoman piece. For some reason I am drawn to the light brown, I like this tone and the way it complements the stronger colours. The knotting is quite coarse horizontally with 7 knots per inch but the vertical knotting has 14 knots per inch. The backing has been sewn under in the corners which make it quite usable as a rug, it is actaully a very robust piece. One of my current favourites.
Fairly good condition with a little wear.
