This case would have contained a selection of cotton reels. It probably dates from the early 1900's as Ermen & Roby's, a leading manufacturer of sewing cottons, was taken over by English Sewing Cottons in 1897. Likely used in the tailoring, dressmaking or haberdashery trade.
