Lincoln Restorations has dated this piece to the 1920s.
A very rare trunk, ideal as a coffee table or blanket box.
This is a very handsome large vintage 1920s steamer trunk, originally designed as a travelling wardrobe, this trunk has been neatly converted into a desirable low-profile coffee table and blanket chest with an interesting talking point.

This solid construction provides an unusually robust structure that won't sag when used horizontally, unlike many less substantial trunks. The trunk is further strengthened via extensive hardware, including reinforced corners, hundreds of rivets, and multiple locating latches. A key feature is the fully working slam lock which comes complete with its two original Sheffield steel keys—a very rare find. A single leather handle is also fitted to one end for easy movement.

The large interior, originally fitted for a traveller's clothes, has been cleanly stripped out for modern utility. This conversion now offers a generous, uninterrupted open storage space ideal for bedding, blankets, or cushions in any living room. This space is beautifully presented with an attractive and remarkably clean blue patterned lining featuring geometric motifs. When the lid is opened it is securely held in position by a sturdy brass chain stay. The trunk's exceptional low height, blend of historical charm, durable construction, and highly usable converted storage make it a unique and practical piece of antique furniture for modern living.
