Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A toilet mirror, also known as a dressing glass, is an adjustable tabletop mirror designed to sit atop a dressing table, chest of drawers, or cabinet. Popularised in Britain during the eighteenth century, these pieces frequently feature a timber box base with small drawers for storing cosmetics and personal accessories.

High-grade mahogany, walnut, and satinwood were predominantly used for the exterior veneers and frames, often backed with secondary timbers such as oak or pine. Additional components include brass finials, hand-turned support screws, and silvered glass mirror plates.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-sawn secondary timber, hand-cut dovetail jointing on the base drawers, and original brass hardware. The mirror plate often displays subtle silvering degradation, edge bevels, or minor distortion characteristic of historical glassmaking methods.

Position the mirror atop a contemporary sideboard, hallway console, or chest of drawers to introduce warm wood tones into a modern scheme. Pair it with simple modern ceramics or understated lighting to balance historic timberwork with clean visual lines.

Dust the mahogany frame regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically along the grain to nourish the timber. Clean the glass plate carefully with a soft cloth, avoiding excess moisture near the frame edges to protect the silvering.
