19th-century Campaign Correspondence Box

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Sinclairs Antiques and Interiors

A superb 19th-century campaign correspondence box crafted from richly grained Padouk, designed for both portability and discretion. The exterior is fitted with brass corner protectors and decorative strapping, while the lid features a central brass inlay with a circular and cross motif. Inside, the box reveals a thoughtfully compartmentalised interior, including a fitted writing slope, sections for pens and papers. A concealed drawer, accessible via a hidden mechanism, offers secure storage for sensitive documents or valuables. The original working key remains present, allowing the box to be locked for privacy. With its warm patina and robust construction, this piece exemplifies the refined utility of campaign furniture—both functional and collectible.
