Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A spill vase was a decorative ceramic vessel produced in 19th-century Britain to hold rolled paper splints or wood shavings, known as spills, used to transfer fire from a hearth to candles or pipes. Pearlware refers to lead-glazed earthenware featuring a small amount of cobalt in the glaze to yield a white surface with a subtle blue tint.

These ceramic vessels were crafted from earthenware clay using mould-pressing or slip-casting techniques, then finished with a cobalt-tinted lead glaze. Fine details, such as shredded clay foliage, bridges, or architectural elements, were sculpted by hand and painted with enamel glazes prior to firing.

Authentic Regency examples typically display a characteristic slight blue pooling of lead glaze in crevices, hand-painted enamel colours, and minor firing imperfections or mould seams consistent with historical manufacturing. Maker impressions, such as those from John Walton, sometimes appear on the reverse base, though many genuine period pieces were unmarked.

A ceramic spill vase functions as a distinctive decorative object when placed on a fireplace mantelpiece, bookshelf, or deep window sill. Positioned alongside modern minimalist decor or contemporary art books, its sculptural form and historical texture add depth and character to the space.

Dust the item gently using a soft, dry artist brush to clear debris from detailed relief surfaces. Avoid soaking earthenware in water or using harsh chemical cleaners, as moisture can enter micro-crazing in the glaze and damage the underlying porous body or surface enamels.
