Pair Georgian Irish Silver Berry Serving Spoons Dublin 1773 George III

18th century
Description

A very pretty pair of Georgian Irish silver fiddle and thread pattern serving spoons, the bowls later (Victorian) embossed and gilt washed into "berry" spoons. The handles have been finely machine engraved with a reeded background and stylised acanthus leaves and scrolls, finishing with a framed cartouche at the terminals of a family crest; a rather charming wolf passant holding a spear in its front right paw.

The hallmarks are partially obscured due to being on the stem and partially rubbed, but they are legible for Dublin 1773 and the maker's initials appear to end with an F, possibly the silversmith unidentified but with the initials W.F, a flatware worker of the early 1770s.

The measure 21.2cm (8 3/8") long and 4.5cm (1 3/4") wide. They weigh 169g / 5.4ozt.

In excellent condition with damage, dents or repairs and minimal wear to the 19th century decoration. The hallmarks, as mentioned, are partially rubbed.

A lovely set of serving spoons, perfect for desserts and fruit.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
