Fabulous Late 18thc/early 19thc Black Basalt Large Bowl

£60    $80    €70
Fabulous Late 18thc/Early 19thc Black Basalt Large Bowl, neo classical design and engine turned body. Black basalt is a hard dense, fine grained stoneware developed by Josiah wedgwood in the late 18thc, made from a reddish brown clay which turns black when firing. This is one piece from a collection recently acquired, look out for the other pieces. Incredibly elegant and displays extremely well. The bowl depicts various figural applied decoration around the body, six different scenes and an engine turned chevron design around the base edge. No makers mark as was common back then, so could have been one of numerous top quality companies producing aroung the late 1700''s.
