This is a really interesting piece, it was bought by its last owner in Northern Ireland in around 1930, and had at that time been in a farm house there for a considerable number of years, at least 100. From its design it looks English, but its heritage is definitely Irish, except that its Jacobean....
As it is, its a beautiful piece of furniture, in wonderful condition for its 250+ years of age with a deep shine and lovely patina that only time can bring. The unit comes in two pieces, the lower section incorporating two large ornately carved drawers with brass handles, and key holes (no keys or locks for the drawers) above a scalloped frieze. The upper section, with shelves and two cupboards both with locks and keys, provide for additional storage, all below another ornately carved frieze.
