Antique Knife & Purse Belt, Lakai Uzbeks, Uzbekistan, Central Asia.

Description

I acquired this rare and beautiful knife belt with knife, sheath and small purse in Mashad, north-eastern Iran, approximately 35 years ago and I've had it tucked away in a chest ever since! It is now time to sell it!

Made by Lakai Uzbeks circa 1900, the belt is very finely embroidered in silk as is the embroidery on the silk purse and knife sheath. At each end of the belt, amulets are sewn on, probably as a symbol of protection to the owner.

I have retained the knife as it is not possible to send it out of the UK. However, if a buyer in the UK or overseas wishes to purchase the knife separately, it will have to be collected from my Cotswold home.

This is a truly wonderful, rare item and would make a fabulous wall decoration.

Size: The belt is 96cm (3' 2") long x 8cm (3") wide excluding knife sheath and purse.
