Victorian Taxidermy- Red-necked Tanager (tangara Cyanocephala) By The Famous London Taxidermy Firm Of James Gardner.

A south American bird in typical wall hanging dome. Circa 1885.
 
Gardner’s small trade label listing ‘by appointment to the Queen’ along with the address 426 Oxford Street London, can be found nestled amongst the ground work.
 
An old inscription to the rear of the case reads ‘Red Throated Finch”.
 
This particular wall dome is one from an original set of four. All recently purchased from a private house, and not previously offered for sale.
 
27cm Diameter.
 
Condition: slightly smaller than the other three we have for sale, and with an old water stain to the backdrop around the top edge.
