Georgian/regency Cut Glass Bonbonničre Or Small Urn
Status:This item has been sold Sold by:The World is Made of Glass Ltd.
This is a Georgian/Regency, cut glass bonbonničre and cover dating from the beginning of the 19th century, c1810.
The bonbonničre is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear consistent with some 200 years of use.
The bonbonničre is approximately cylinder-shaped and measures 8.5 cm (3.4 inches) in diameter at its widest point. The bowl is tooth-cut to the rim, under which sits a band of diamond cutting. The bowl then steps inward and flares back out again where two prism cuts sit above a wide band of diamond cutting above another prism cut and a basal band of panel cuts. The bowl sits on a capstan stem with a medial annular knop and a slightly conical foot which is radially cut underneath to the edge. There is a polished out pontil mark to the underside of the foot. The bonbonničre is 15 cm (6 inches) in height without the cover and 19 cm (7.6 inches) in height with the cover on.
The cover is cut in the same form as t...he bowl and we believe it to be the original. It is of the same colour and metal as the bonbonničre and is a good fit. It is cut with the same diamond and prism cutting and has a radially-cut mushroom finial.
There are no significant chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other evidence of restoration. An impressive piece of cut glass of some rarity due to its almost pristine condition.
Anglo Irish lead glass weighing in at 715 g. (~ 1 lb 9 oz).
