Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian burr walnut cabinets are identified by highly figured walnut root veneers contrasting with dark trim or turned details. During the mid-to-late 19th century, cabinetmakers frequently incorporated ebonised moulding, brass accents, and fitted marble tops to produce substantial storage pieces for grand reception rooms.

These cabinets typically feature a solid pine or oak carcase veneered with burr walnut. Ebonised highlights were created using dark stains or black lacquers on hardwood moulding, while white or grey-veined Carrara marble was commonly imported to form durable upper surfaces.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass hand-cut locks, and natural shrinkage cracks or figure variation in the veneer. The underside of the marble top should show unpolished saw marks, and the ebonised trim should display subtle wear along high-touch edges.

Position the cabinet as a focal piece in a hallway, dining room, or alcove. Modernise the look by placing sculptural ceramic vases or minimal table lamps on the marble top and hanging oversized contemporary artwork above the unit to create visual contrast.

Dust the wood routinely with a soft dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year along the direction of the grain. Clean the marble using warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner, immediately wiping away spills to prevent etching or staining the porous stone surface.
