This exceptional writing desk is a stunning example of craftsmanship from the late 19th or early 20th century. It is not only a visually striking piece but also highly functional, with thoughtful design elements that make it ideal for modern use, such as a sloped surface perfect for laptops.

The desk features ample storage, including a small working drawer within the main compartment and the four main drawers on the right hand side. On the left are four faux drawer fronts with elegant drop brass handles, complementing the aesthetic. The drawers are all clean inside and run well. Beautiful original brass handles.

The top letter rack and pen storage compartment actually lifts out to reveal a possible secret compartment, It might originally have been made like this so the personal letters and pens could just be lifted out I moved to somewhere private.

The desk has a wonderful smoothe painted black ebonised fi...nish which is the original finish. The beautiful carved decoration Detail has been highlighted with a gold finish.

On the whole the condition is very good, there is a stretch of thin beading that is missing on the right hand side just above the top drawer, this has been blacked in so it does not really notice too badly.

There is a split in the writing surface. I hope you can see it in the photograph I''ve taken of the underside of it. However, it is important to note that I have tested the surface, and this has in no way affected its strength.

Originally the top letter compartment would have had a gallery trim which has been lost at some point and the holes it was attached by have been filled and blacked in.

This remarkable piece is in very good condition for its age, surface wear commensurate with age, making it a valuable addition to any home.
