Antique Uzbek suzani, silk embroidery on a red cotton ground.
Circa 1900/20.
They are then used to decorate the inside of the Yurt. They are embroidered in silk on strips of cotton which are then joined together to make the complete item. The suzani is then backed with fine cotton to give it strength and body.

This example has fine silk 'basma' stich embroidery in floral designs, on a red adras silk / cotton field. It was probably woven in South Eastern Uzbekistan, near the Tajik boarder, probably Tajik work. The suzani would have been used as a bed cover or wall hanging.

The condition is excellent with only very slight wear and no repairs, the backing is cotton with a floral design. There are a few slight small old water marks to the red ground.
The suzani is ready for display.
Ref: T-0321.
