Indian wedding Shawl, possibly Zari Work From Kashmir, known locally as 'dochala'.
Circa 1880.
A very fine shawl with gold cotton embroidery on a fine red wool ground.
Woven from fine wool, these highly prized shawls were originally worn by men to cover their entire bodies, but were later adapted and shortened to be draped over the shoulders. A dochala is characterized by intricate designs, often featuring floral motifs.
Excellent original condition with a few very small slight stains.
