Description

A stunning, fine and impressive antique Victorian 2.50 carat ruby and 4.70 carat diamond, 18 carat yellow gold and silver set necklace; part of our diverse ruby jewellery and estate jewelry collections.

This stunning, fine and impressive antique Victorian ruby and diamond necklace has been crafted in 18ct yellow gold with silver settings.

The stunning setting is embellished with six silver set floriated designs, each ornamented with a claw set cushion cut Burmese ruby to the centre.

Each flower setting bears four pavé set Dutch cut diamonds.

The floriated settings alternate in an articulating linear formation with seven individually claw set Old European round cut diamonds, with the arrangement terminating with further claw set rubies.

The flower settings are further conjoined with plain bar swag designs incorporating two Dutch cut diamonds, to a claw set Burmese ruby to the centre.

Each swag and floriated design supports a pensile drop, ornamented with a claw set Old European round cut diamond to the terminal; the swag terminals feature a further Dutch cut diamond to the drop.

The necklace secures to the reverse with a push fit clasp and benefits from the added security of a hinged safety chain; this safety chain could be used to extend the wearing length of the piece.

The gold ruby necklace has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton XL2 Analyzer) and verified as 18 carat gold and silver.

This impressive antique ruby necklace in yellow gold is supplied with an IDGL diamond and gemstone grading card, in addition to a ruby report card and certificate supplied by the Gemmological Certification Services, London*.

This ruby necklace has been hand-crafted, with a darker setting and gemstone choice carefully selected by the goldsmith in a contrasting colour, creating an aesthetically pleasing appearance; this necklace is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Late Victorian festoon and fringe necklaces feature delicate swags, floral motifs, and suspended gemstone drops crafted in gold and silver settings.

Jewellers during the late Victorian era commonly utilised 18ct yellow gold, silver-topped gold settings to enhance diamond brilliance, and natural precious gemstones such as rubies and old-cut diamonds.

Authentic pieces from around 1890 display hand-cut gemstones such as old mine or cushion cuts, silver-topped gold mountings, hand-formed chain links, and period-appropriate clasp mechanisms.

An antique statement necklace can be paired with simple contemporary necklines, formal eveningwear, or tailored suits to allow the gemstone detail to serve as the main accent.

Clean gently using warm water with mild soap and a soft brush, avoiding harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners that can damage delicate antique mountings.
