N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The top of the case is arched with three lovely brass finials as well as dial being flanked by columns. The trunk of the case then has fantastic marquetry inlay to the doo as well as lovely thick cross banding to the sides. The base then continues the intricate marquetry inlay with cross banding to the sides. A truly beautiful case then is not only unique but would look fantastic in any home.
The dial is then a brass, arched example with a silvered chapter ring set out in Roman numerals. The centre of the dial is then painted, which again is unusual, with a lovely scene featuring a castle and people. The centre also has a subsidiary second dial as well as a date aperture. The each corner then has a lovely shaped spandril as well as the arch having two flanking the makers disk which reads “Thos Reynolds Oxford”. Finally the dial is finished by lovely shaped fingers.
The movement is then complete, ticking away as it should and chiming the number of hours on the hour via a bell. The movement is complete with its weights, pendulum and winding key. The date and second dials also work perfectly.
