Rare Early Minton Porcelain Flat Back Figure The Cobbler's Wife Model 5 C.1824-1828

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: The Fancy Fox

A very rare early Minton porcelain figure of the Cobbler''s Wife. The very first Minton figures, models 1-8, are small and only modelled to the front, the back being recessed and undecorated. Decorated in rich enamels and set on an oval base, the front with some gilt decoration. A basket and a pair of black leather boots lie on the floor. Unmarked, c.1824-1825.

Reference: Minton Pottery & Porcelain Of The First Period, Godden, page 82 and a design sketch of the model from the original factory book is shown amongst others of these early figures in plate 132.

It measures 10.5cm (4 1/8'') high, 7.6cm (3'') wide and 1.3cm (3 1/2'') deep.
