Howard & Sons Mahogany Library Armchair

A late Victorian carved mahogany library armchair by Howard & Sons.
 
In the George Ill style, the serpentine padded back, arms and serpentine seat traditionally upholstered in red cotton with close stud detail.
 
The hand grips and underarm supports with crisply carved acanthus, raised on carved cabriole legs with scrolled feet.
 
Stamped to the underside of leg ''HOWARD & SONS LTD., BERNERS ST, numbered 182 1319.
 
Provenance:
 
The estate of the late Stewart Whittington (1941-2018), Director of Norman Adams Ltd.
 
For over 20 years Stewart Whittington worked with and for Norman Adams (1905-1979), the renowned and respected English furniture dealer whose eponymous business opened at 8-10 Hans Road, Knightsbridge in 1928.
