A stunning Victorian mahogany sideboard, dating from the mid to late 19th century.
It is made of solid mahogany and some mahogany veneer on a softwood carcass, mainly the interior and backing. Many of these sideboards are entirely veneered on this pine, this however, is far heftier and well made.
The top is screwed to top surface of the base.
This beautifully carved piece features a shaped and scrolled plain back, flanked with intricate foliate details, all crafted in rich, warm mahogany wood with a lustrous grain. The top is in excellent condition.
The sideboard boasts two large cupboard doors with applied carved decoration. The main fault of the piece is the roght hand side of the right hand door has a piece missing. While structurally sound and visually striking, this piece shows signs of use consistent with age, in particular sone small areas to te top surface edge where the veneer is missing.
