Fine English Silver Plated Biscuit Box - Original Bristol Blue Glass Liner C.1880

Description

A stunning, unusual and highly decorative biscuit box dating to around 1880, Victorian in era. The silverplate is beautifully beautifully detailed with a pierced or reticulated body with a cast grapevine border to the top and bottom. This continuous garland of vine is continued around the lid.

The two grand handles are joined with a continuous Acanthus leaf garland together with floral motifs; all in all a really splendid example.

The interior is lucky enough to have retained it's original hand-blown Bristol blue glass liner with the polished pontil mark to the underside, dating it to the Victorian era. Having this glass liner, makes this one perfect to be used as an Ice bucket.

Dating to around 1880, this stunning piece remains in excellent condition 8" tall to top of finial 9" across, handle to handle.
