Antique Silver Plate Strawberry Set by James Dixon & Son C.1890

Description

I have had similar Strawberry sets with the fixed shell-shaped dishes, this is a rarer, more sought-after type with the dishes being removable; miraculous that everything has remained intact, when these sets come along, there is always something missing.

Made by the famous silversmith, James Dixon & Son of Sheffield, the frame, cream jug and sugar bowl are all marked J D & S and EP for Electro-Plated.

The shell shaped dishes were gilded, and there is wear to the gilt but I have left untouched as this original patination is desirable being totally original.

The interior of the cream and sugar were re-gilded by my silversmith, as these did require it, making them very usable for food use.

A really wonderful set in excellent condition, measuring in total 16 1/2" in length x 8" wide x 8" tall to top of carrying handle. A solid, top-notch example.
