Rare Antique Oil Lamp Kloster Veilsdorf Persian Inspired
£1,250 $1,676 €1,430
Antique oil lamp standing 67cm tall overall.
A beautiful and rare Persian inspired oil lamp made by Kloster Veilsdorf . The blue and white porcelain body decorated with a profusion of flowers and C Scroll leaves. The form is of a tall ginger jar with the well being incorporated into the lid. The ceramic portions of the lamp are both marked with a “CV” monogram within a shield in underglaze blue as per my photographs.
The Duplex burner although unmarked is of a very good quality and is not a new inferior type. The wick winder works well as does the snuffer lever. Although shown without wicks, wicks will be fitted. Prior to posting. There is an anchor brand flat bulge chimney present and a 10cm brass fitter supports a pretty tulip shaped milk glass shade of unknown age which is embossed with acanthus leaves and flowers.
Notes on the maker
Kloster Veilsdorf
Porcelain factory founded by Prince Friedrich Wilhelm Eugen von Sachsen-Hildburghausen in Veilsdorf, Hildburghausen, G...ermany. It achieved a true porcelain body in 1763 when the arcanist and porcelain painter Nikolaus Paul the Younger joined the opperation. The factory made a wide assortment of wares including figures, vases, centrepieces, candlesticks, and dishes. The initials CV painted in blue were used to mark pieces.
Condition
As per my photographs the main body of the lamp has an historical repair but this has been skilfully glued and is imperceptible when the lid is in place. There is also an internal factory flaw but this does not penetrate to the outside of the vase.
