Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Stockman was founded in Paris in 1867 by Frederic Stockman and became world-renowned for producing handcrafted tailors busts and mannequins. These dress forms were shaped according to human anatomy to assist tailors, dressmakers, and fashion houses in garment construction throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.

Late 19th and early 20th-century mannequins were typically constructed using a papier-mache or padded straw structure covered in heavy linen or cotton canvas. The central pole and base were usually forged from cast iron or turned turned wood, offering stability for heavy garments.

Original Stockman pieces are generally identified by a stamped makers mark or stencilled logo near the neck or base of the torso, often including Stockman Paris alongside model numbers. Additionally, period construction techniques such as brass adjustment screws, heavy cast iron bases, and hand-stitched linen covers serve as key indicators.

An antique mannequin displaying historical clothing functions as a sculptural art piece when placed in an entry foyer, dressing room, or study. Positioned in a corner or alongside architectural features, it adds historical character, texture, and visual height to both traditional and modern spaces.

Keep mannequins and historic garments away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and damp environments to prevent fading, fabric breakdown, and mould growth. Dust gently using a soft brush or vacuum with a mesh attachment, avoiding chemical cleaners or water on aged fabrics and ironwork.
