In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A copperplate engraved map is a cartographic print created by hand-incising geographic features onto a polished copper sheet. Ink was applied to the plate and pressed onto laid paper using a rolling press, producing crisp linework and distinct plate mark impressions characteristic of Georgian printing.

Late Georgian maps were printed using oil-based carbon ink onto handmade rag paper produced from cotton or linen fibres. The plates were made of solid copper, enabling fine line detail, clear typography, and delicate border decorations.

Authentic period engravings typically display an indented plate mark around the outer border where the copper plate pressed into the damp paper. Under magnification, authentic prints show continuous engraved ink lines rather than dot patterns, and the rag paper often displays natural age toning or chain lines when held to light.

Historic maps function well as focal points when mounted in contemporary or traditional wooden frames. They integrate effectively into gallery walls, home offices, or hallways alongside neutral furnishings and dark timber accents.

Antique paper prints must be kept away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent fading and foxing. Frame prints using conservation-grade, acid-free backing boards and UV-protective glass, avoiding direct contact between the paper surface and the glazing.
