Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian cameo jewellery typically dates from 1901 to 1910 and is characterised by delicate metalwork, often using sterling silver or platinum, framing precisely carved relief scenes in shell or hardstone.

Antique cameos were predominantly carved from natural materials with distinct layers, such as conch shell, agate, onyx, or sardonyx, and subsequently set in precious metal mounts including gold and silver.

Authenticity can be verified by examining official assay office hallmarks on the metal frame, inspecting the carving for hand-tool markings rather than molded edges, and checking for natural material graining.

An antique cameo brooch can be styled by securing it to coat lapels, high-collared blouses, silk scarves, or used as a decorative fasten on knitwear and tailored blazers.

Clean shell cameos using a soft, dry cloth and mild soapy water if necessary, avoiding harsh chemicals or submergence; clean silver mounts gently with a dedicated silver polishing cloth to avoid disturbing the carving.
