Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the eighteenth century, gold snuff boxes were small luxury personal accessories crafted to hold powdered tobacco. Vari-coloured gold techniques involved alloying gold with copper, silver, or other metals to create distinct shades of rose, yellow, and green used for decorative relief motifs.

Master goldsmiths constructed these boxes by hand using cast, chased, and engine-turned 18-carat gold components. Different gold alloys were soldered together to form detailed relief work, borders, and architectural panels fitted with precise flush hinges.

Authentic French boxes from this era typically feature official hallmarking systems, including maker marks, charge marks, and discharge marks stamped by regional guild authorities. Inspecting for hand-tooled joinery, micro-chasing, and appropriate period weight distribution also helps verify age.

These small decorative objects work effectively displayed on top of a coffee table book, inside a glass cloche, or arranged on a console or sideboard top. They serve as a refined historic accent when paired with contemporary minimalist accessories.

Gold objects should be cleaned gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth without liquid polish or abrasive chemicals that can wear down delicate chased surface details. Store the box in a climate-controlled, lined box to prevent impact or scratches.
