A fine example of a late 17thc / early 18thc brass ''sheet metal'' chamberstick....sometimes known as a ''frying pan'' type, which is quite English in its features....the rolled copper rivets.....the plain candle sconce and the lack of punchwork and embossed decoration....this fine example has a nicely shaped handle for hanging up when not in use and note the pleasing lathe marks underneath, where the brass has been turned on a lathe to reduce the thickness and then finished by hand....all the filings gathered up again to re-use, as the brass was very valuable in those days ....the brass is of a good weight and quality...overall in excellent condition with no dents or cracks....a lovely example of these hard to find pieces of early lighting.English.
