Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Copperplate engraved maps were produced by incising geographical details onto a copper sheet, applying ink into the grooves, and pressing the image onto paper. Regional boundaries and coastlines were subsequently highlighted using hand-applied watercolour washes.

These maps were printed on handmade rag paper, which contains cotton or linen fibres, using oil-based printing ink. Colour details were added post-printing using natural plant and mineral pigments diluted in water.

Authentic period maps display a distinct plate mark impression along the border where the metal plate pressed into the damp paper. Under inspection, genuine laid paper from this era typically exhibits chain lines and uneven surface texture rather than a smooth modern finish.

Mount the map using conservation-grade matting inside a understated timber or gilt frame. Position it within a home office, library, or hallway gallery wall to create a historical focal point.

Frame paper maps behind UV-filtering glass and keep them away from direct sunlight and damp environments. Ensure all mounting materials are acid-free to prevent toning and deterioration over time.
