Description:
This is a fine quality and rare antique Irish Georgian desk chair, with a Chippendale design influence, constructed from solid red walnut, and newly upholstered in green buttoned leather, circa 1750, in excellent condition. This rare antique Irish chair, may have started life in the Georgian period as a hall / occasional chair, but given it has an upholstered s
...eat, it would serve many uses around the home. Today, such a chair would be more useful as office / desk chair. The Georgian desk chair, incorporates an elegantly shaped backrest, upholstered in green leather, bordered by hand-tacked brass studwork and the red walnut frame. Supported by shaped upright scroll rails, elegant scroll arms splay outward, giving the effect of a folding piece of timber, secured below by an additional vertical splayed support, which unite the serpentine shaped seat, with a banded walnut frieze. The chair frame has been constructed with mortise and tenon joints, and pegs.
The Georgian desk chair seat has been newly upholstered to a professional standard in top quality full-grain antique green leather, with a deep-buttoning, finished with hand-tacked brass studs to the perimeter. The underside of the seat has been finished with a traditional hessian backing. The walnut office chair is raised on elegant cabriole front legs, which terminate on crisp carved “hoof” feet, with splayed legs at the rear. The walnut chair frame has been cleaned and French polished, by hand, to a professional standard, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. The walnut office chair sits on four splayed walnut legs that terminate on its original steel roller-ball castors, which are in good condition.
