Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Designed for grand entrance halls during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, hall chairs provided temporary seating for callers or servants. Unlike living room seating, they were constructed with flat wooden seats without upholstery to prevent damp outdoor garments from damaging fabrics.

These chairs were crafted from solid oak using traditional joinery methods such as mortise and tenon joints. Features include hand-turned front legs, hand-chiselled strapwork or pierced back panels, and tapered rear legs.

Authentic period hall chairs feature solid timber seats showing subtle tool marks and natural age-related movement in the wood. Examine the backrest carvings for hand-sculpted details rather than modern uniform machine cuts, alongside original surface patination.

Place the pair symmetrically on either side of an entryway console table or against a long hallway wall to create balance. Their sculpted silhouettes also allow them to serve as decorative accent seating in living areas or beneath staircase landings.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to prevent dust accumulation in carved details. Apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice per year to maintain the timber finish, and position away from direct heat sources to prevent wood splitting.
