We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Maritime oil paintings depict nautical scenes, including historical naval engagements, merchant vessels, and ocean landscapes. This genre captures the detailed architecture of warships and atmospheric marine environments.

Twentieth-century oil paintings typically consist of oil-based pigments applied to stretched linen or cotton canvas support. These works are often mounted within carved or moulded timber frames secured with joinery staples or glazing points.

Authentic works from this period feature natural surface craquelure, artist signatures rendered in matching paint layers, and period-correct stretcher bars. Inspecting the back of the canvas often reveals age-consistent timber darkening and original gallery labels.

A maritime canvas creates a focal point when hung above a mantelpiece or sideboard in a traditional or contemporary space. Pairing the artwork with rich timber furniture, brass accents, or neutral walls enhances its atmospheric qualities.

Dust the surface gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding damp cloths or chemical cleaners. Display the artwork away from direct sunlight, heating sources, and areas with high humidity to prevent cracking and canvas distortion.
