Painted in the characteristic Paris palette and set on a rococo base with gilt scrolls. Underside bears an underglaze crossed-swords mark with the letters, associated with the Bourdois & Bloch atelier; the porcelain body is likely Limoges, decoration Paris. The Parisian atelier Bourdois & Bloch, founded by Eugène Bloch as Bloch & Cie around 1848, flourished during the Second Empire (1852-1870) in partnership with Gustave Bourdois. Specializing in the artistic painting of Limoges porcelain, the workshop created exclusive luxury items with virtuoso painting and gilding, becoming a benchmark of taste for Parisian bourgeoisie. Of strong collector appeal for the crisp biscuit lace and the rare complete survival of the guitar, together with unusually fine facial painting.
Condition: small loss to the little finger of the guitarist’s right hand; minor losses to lace. Otherwise excellent: fresh enamels and gilding, no chips or cracks. Guitar intact.
