Gardner Porcelain Tea Cup and Saucer, Moscow Factory, Circa 1880

Description

Russian porcelain tea cup and saucer by the Gardner Factory, Moscow, late 19th century. Rounded cup with scroll handle and matching saucer with raised well. Rich cobalt ground with hand-painted polychrome floral medallions, gilt scroll ornament and white arabesques; a single rose painted to the cup interior. Undersides with printed “Gardner Factory” No 4 under the city arms of Moscow; red painted inventory “128” to cup. Established in 1766 by Francis Gardner, the factory’s late-Imperial production is valued for enamel quality and tasteful decoration. The clear imperial mark, detailed floral painting, and excellent condition make the teacup a desirable reference piece for collectors and connoisseurs alike.

Dimensions: saucer diameter 13 cm, height 2.5 cm; cup height 4.5 cm, width 10 cm, diameter 8 cm.

Condition: tiny scuffs to the blue, barely visible; otherwise excellent antique condition.
