Wonderful Victorian Silver Plate Bread Basket by Elkington & Co., 1860

Description

An exceptional bread basket by the very best maker of English silver plate maker, Elkington & Co. The underside is fully marked for Elkington Mason & Company.

The wonderful plus for Elkington silverplate is that each piece was marked with a date letter, much like English sterling silver, this is unique to Elkington and of course allows us to date pieces accurately. The piece has the letter V inside a diamond shaped lozenge, for the year 1860.

The exquisite shape is enhanced by a thick rope rim, a finer rope twisted around the handles and a beautiful engraved decoration to the interior.

A wonderful piece, in excellent condition, measuring 15" handle to handle x 9" wide.
