Antique Early Treen 19thc Kingwood Go-to-bed With Turned Bone Finial. English C1820-40.

Sold by: Mark Seabrook Antiques

A fine example of an early 19thc kingwood ''go to bed''....it has a pleasing shape with a slightly ''stepped'' base and turned bone finial for holding the lit taper or match....it has also gained a very good colour...these collectable items, were used as the name suggests, to place a lighted wax taper or later a match in the finial and make your way to bed...the taper / match would light your darkened way.....the matches were kept in the main body, just in case the taper or match was blown out ....in excellent condition and coming from a very good collection.

English. C1820-40. Provenance of the Hawtin collection - Number 122.
