Chelsea Derby Porcelain Recumbant Sheep By William Duesbury

A rare and delightful antique Chelsea Derby porcelain figure of a recumbent sheep by William Duesbury and dating between 1770 and 1784. The sheep rests on an oval shaped base decorated with an incised chain design to the front edge and applied with rough green painted vegetation to the surface. The sheep is well modelled with good detail and proportions and has painted features with grey painted hoofs and ears. The base has a gilded finish around the edges. The figure is numbered 37 in red to the base and has a gilded Chelsea Derby mark to the top of the back edge. An old collector’s paper label is attached to the base.
 
Provenance: Acquired from the UK Art Market.
 
In good presentable condition with professional restoration to the ears.
