Exquisite Large Carved Black Forest Wooden Jewelry Box C.1880

Description

A really fabulous top quality example of Black Forest work from the Bavarian / Swiss region of Europe, Victorian in era and dating to around 1860.

The carving is quite exceptional topped with a beautifully executed Mountain Goat on a rocky terrain. The front and side panels have wonderful and intricate carved floral and foliate motifs, sharp and in amazingly in wonderful condition. The two front doors open to reveal six drawers behind, again with exceptional decoration and each retaining the original velvet lining. Below there is a large drawer the width of the cabinet, again with matching original fabric lining.

An heirloom example in every way in excellent condition. The footprint of the cabinet measures 15" x 8" and stands 23" tall to the top of the figural carving. Superb!!
