Antique English Alabaster Stationery Box - Brass, Bronze & Onyx Mounts, C.1860

Description

A stunning and most unusual desk-top stationery box made from thick heavy natural stone in superb condition with a bright glossy patina. Amazingly, no notable damage to the marble, a few rough spots and a small hairline to the lid, naturally found in this stone, insignificant but mentioned for accuracy.

The top is mounted with a thick bronze rope mount and a polished brass mount framing the gorgeous polished Onyx oval to the centre. The front too, has a highly decorative escutcheon, housing the working key, beautifully engraved.

The interior is wonderful, with various compartments and a silk lined lid. Excellent condition, measuring 8" x 4 3/4" x 9" tall at rear.

The top is mounted with a thick bronze rope mount and a polished brass mount framing the gorgeous polished Onyx oval to the centre. The front too, has a highly decorative escutcheon, housing the working key, beautifully engraved.
