A gueridon table is a small, circular occasional or centre table that originated in seventeenth-century France. During the French Empire period under Napoleon, gueridons were adapted with Neoclassical forms, featuring monolithic central pedestals, carved legs, and marble tops inspired by ancient Roman and Greek designs.

French Empire gueridon tables were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany and rich mahogany veneers. Tops were frequently fitted with thick circular marble slabs, whilst structural feet and decorative elements often incorporated carved timber or gilded bronze mounts and brass castors.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-carved joinery, original brass hardware, and dense flame mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcass wood. Key decorative motifs include swan supports, caryatids, lion paw feet, and geometric tripartite bases reflective of early nineteenth-century Neoclassicism.

A gueridon table operates effectively as a central focal point in an entrance foyer or as an occasional table beside armchairs in a formal drawing room. Its dark wood and marble top pair well with architectural stone features, crisp painted walls, and contemporary sculpture.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft dry microfiber cloth and polish sparingly with beeswax to maintain the mahogany patina. Clean the marble top using a pH-neutral cleaner to prevent etching, avoiding acidic solutions and liquid standing water.
