Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the early 20th century, French cabinetmakers produced revival pieces drawing inspiration from 18th-century Louis XV and Rococo designs, characterised by curved cabriole legs, hand-painted floral motifs, and serpentine timber frames.

Frames were typically constructed from carved hardwoods such as beech or lime wood, finished with painted gesso layers, hand-painted floral detailing, and upholstered using traditional webbed seating covered in velvet or damask.

Authentic period pieces exhibit natural age-related craquelure or softening to the paint patina, hand-carved joinery along the seat frame, and period-correct upholstery tacking rather than contemporary staple fixings.

These low-profile seating options function effectively placed as a pair at the foot of a bed, arranged in a bay window, or utilised alongside a dressing table to introduce colour and historical texture.

Clean painted timber frames with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to preserve delicate gesso and hand-painted details, and regularly dust upholstery using a soft brush vacuum attachment.
