£65    $86    €74
A pretty Georgian bone china porcelain milk jug, of boat form with distinctive raised strap handle with sharply angled inward step at the bottom and flattened thumb rest sitting just below the top of the handle. A broad running frieze of stylised cornflowers, loosely painted with sky blue and violet enamel and delicate gilt stems, buds and feathery foliage. Further gilded bands around the foot, shoulder and rim and foliate border running below the rim and up the handle. Unmarked, attributed to Coalport (John Rose), teawares of Class D type, c.1807-1810.

Reference: Coalport & Coalbrookdale Porcelains, Godden, plate 55, and Coalport by Messenger, plate 50.

It measures 12cm (4 3/4'') high, 15cm (5 7/8'') spout to handle and 8cm (3 1/8'') wide.

In excellent condition with no damage, repair or restoration. Very minor handling wear. There are two minor spots of erroneous gilding, one near the base and one just below a gilt line, both original to the piece.
