Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 18th century, prominent European and Spanish manufactories produced tin-glazed earthenware shaped like animals, birds, and fruits. These zoomorphic vessels served as whimsical table decorations and functional tureens, reflecting the eras fascination with nature and theatrical dining presentations.

Polychrome faience is constructed from fired earthenware coated with an opaque white tin glaze. Metallic oxides, such as cobalt for blue, copper for green, and manganese for brown, were painted onto the unfired or raw glaze before a final firing, fusing the vibrant colours directly into the ceramic body.

Authentic pieces display characteristic signs of age, including subtle surface crazing, slight irregularities in hand-moulding, unglazed foot rims exposing the buff-coloured clay body, and soft, hand-applied brushwork typical of historical oxide painting techniques.

These sculptural ceramics function as striking focal points when arranged symmetrically on a dining room sideboard, displayed inside a glass cabinet, or set on a mantelpiece alongside understated contemporary accessories to highlight their graphic shapes and colours.

Dust gently with a clean, soft brush or dry microfibre cloth. Avoid immersing antique faience in water or using abrasive chemical cleaners, as moisture can penetrate existing crazing or hairline cracks and damage the underlying porous earthenware body.
