N Wilson Antiques Clocks has dated this piece to the 1950s.
The hood of the case is shaped to the top with two beautiful brass finials as well as fretwork panels to the sides and a moulding to the bottom. The trunk of the case is then slender with a lovely burr walnut panels to the door. Finally the base has a stunning burr walnut panels to the front and moulding to the top and bottom. As well as four “Bun” feet. Both the hood and trunk door have their working locks and keys.
The dial is then brass with a silvered chapter ring set out in black Roman numerals. The centre of the dial is then wonderfully engraved as well as each corner having maidens head spandrils. The dial is then signed to the centre by the retailer “JOHN BAGSHAW & SONS LIVERPOOL” as well as being signed by the maker “AN Elliott CLOCK”. The dial is also signed “MADE IN ENGLAND”. Finally the dial is finished by two lovely shaped hands.
The movement is then wound from the front. It ticks and chimes as it should and is very unusual and it is a triple weighted example that chimes Westminster chimes via 5 tubular bells to give a fantastic sound. The clock chimes a quarter of the tune on the quarter past, half on the half past, three quarters on the quarter to and the full tune on the hour as well as the number of hours. The clock is complete and in full working order.
